A experiment in the private vs the public nature of communication across the social internet.

For this project I tweet candidly (as apposed to ‘honestly’) with myself as the only audience in mind. Know one will be added to this account and I will not follow anyone on it. This project works to understand the nature of the private vs the public and how we present ourselves to each other across these communication platforms. The different kinds of our projected egos means that we create with specific audiences in mind. For example across facebook, on which I have old friends and some family, my updates are very sedate. There are no photos, examples of practice or indication of a life that is led outside of that which I present to a family context. By comparison across twitter I find that I am freer on the kinds of subjects tackled. This mitigated by the simple fact that the majority of people I communicate with across this platform I have never met.

This new account is in the vein of the sudden urge that celebrities had when twitter moved from the geeky to the main stream. When people realised that their names had been taken and were forced to adopt the prefix  “the_real...” at the beginning of their names. The curious sense of projection and self constitution is an area of examination in this technologically focused performance project.

I nearly added to my twitter account the phrase ' I love twitter because few can see what I am saying'!
