the man in the park
A engagement with Jean-Paul Sartre articulation of ‘the look’ (Sartre, 1993). The man in the park places the participant in a position of being talked about, appraised, viewed and surveyed without knowing what is being thought about them. The performance seeks to articulate the penetrative and destructive effects of the the Gaze (Lacan, 1991) and its implications for the artists racially marked body in a British context.
